Fitness Resolutions For This Fall

Beginning your fitness training during the fall is a smart idea. This will not only help you get in shape so you look great in your suits, but will help you overcome some unhealthy winter habits eating habits that many of us engage in. Here are a few tips to help you get started on the right track.

  • Cook a Little Differently – While it would be nice if you could stand outside and barbecue all year long, that time of year has passed. Now is the time to explore your other cooking options. Try using a slow cooker, roasting, or stir-frying. New cooking techniques not only provide you with various ways to prepare delicious meals, but may also help you find new and interesting nutritious recipes.
  • Start a New Weight Training Regime – Did you take some time off this summer from your regular weight training regime? If you want to get back to work, you may want to consider adopting a new type of weight training. This is because your body and your muscles will remember your old regime and adjust to it quickly, leaving you very little workout time before you reach a plateau in your training. If you start a new routine, your muscles will easily adapt, but this will allow you to work harder and longer before reaching a training plateau.
  • Don’t Hit The Gym – Is the gym just not your style? Try joining a recreational league instead. Playing basketball, indoor soccer, or ball hockey during these cooler months will help you get in shape, lose weight, and maintain your fitness goals.
  • Don’t Forget The Fruits and Veggies – During the winter time, you may notice that fresh produce becomes scarce in your local grocery store. Don’t let this keep you from eating your fruits and veggies, though. You need the vitamins and nutrients from this produce to keep your body fit and healthy. And don’t believe the old wife’s tale about fresh versus canned produced. According to the American Dietetic Association (ADA), canned fruits and vegetables can easily be substituted for fresh, and be just as healthy for you.
  • Avoid TV Snacking – Love sitting down on the couch to watch your favourite team? For many men, this often leads to the bad habit of TV snacking and possibly even beer drinking. By breaking this habit, you can avoid many empty calories during the fall and winter months. One of the best tips for those trying to shed a few pounds is to avoid drinking your calories. Eating your meals at the dinner table will also keep you from the bad habit of couch snacking.

Don’t wait for the New Year to get in shape and look great in your suits. Start your fall fitness resolutions now.
